Mark Cavendish kicks off the Giro d’Italia
BRITISH sprint star Mark Cavendish kicks off the Giro d’Italia on Saturday convinced it will be his hardest Grand Tour yet.
There are six stages in the Dolomites and Alps and eight days in the mountains, almost twice the usual number. On one day alone, the riders will tackle up to 6,500 metres of climbing.
Cavendish said: “It’s one of the toughest Tour of Italys ever. We’ll have to see how it goes because there is a concern about the last week.”
