Judd Trump is playing in the Masters semi-finals on Saturday following a commanding 6-2 victory over Mark Allen. The Bristol potter is desperate to break an 18-month barren spell at Alexandra Palace this weekend and will now take on John Higgins in the penultimate round.

A rematch of the 2011 and 2019 World Championship finals, it marks their maiden Masters encounter. Serial winner Trump will fancy his chances in this huge showdown, having been successful in their previous seven meetings.

Over the last decade, few players have dominated snooker quite like Trump, yet his most recent trophy came at the 2024 UK Championship, making a Masters triumph crucial to restoring his momentum.

Supporting him through thick and thin is Hong Kong figure skater Maisy Ma. An Instagram sensation, Maisy commands nearly 200,000 followers, though she keeps her relationship with Trump away from her social media presence.

Maisy's career

Beyond figure skating, Maisy has carved out a career as a television presenter. The Hong Kong native has represented her nation at international skating competitions. She's claimed the Hong Kong championship title seven times on ice, whilst on television, she's had the privilege of hosting Olympic Games coverage.

Reflecting in a 2023 Instagram post, she shared: "Today is the first time I went skating "for fun". It's ironic, because I coach about 20 hours a week, plus a lot of my filming work is related to skating as well. However, skating always had a "purpose".

"During my professional athlete career it used to always be about winning, competing for the medals, often forgetting the passion I once had for the sport. As I became a coach , my students actually made me realize the beauty of this sport again.

"I guess as one matures you discover that not everything in life has to have a meaning, a clarified reason, or defined purpose. It's important to follow your heart, wherever that may take you. So today, I am skating because I woke up one day and I felt like it. There was no "real purpose" at all, just because I love being on the ice and skating is forever a passion."

Age difference and common ground

There's nearly 11 years separating Trump and Maisy, with Trump aged 36 and Maisy having celebrated her 26th birthday in November. She frequently shares videos and photographs of herself in Dubai, where Trump owns property, though he doesn't appear in them.

Speaking to Metro, Trump highlighted what the pair have in common: "She [Ma] is used to being in the limelight herself, she still does TV work. It's a good balance because she knows what I'm going through, I think that helps as well."

Trump's relocation

Trump chose to move to the Middle East to be closer to tournaments and Maisy. The announcement came not long after his Bristol home had been completed, but Trump is convinced it was the correct choice.

"My travel plans are maybe a little bit different now than they were in the past 34 years," Trump admitted. "There has been a lot of time spent in Hong Kong and Dubai. I'm happy travelling around the world, spending as little time in the UK as possible at the moment. Because I don't really enjoy it as much there anymore.

"While I'm still reasonably young, I'm trying to make sure I have a good time off the table as well. I think it's easier knowing that I don't have the old 20-hour journey home. That helps me.

"I think I will be based in the Middle East now rather than in the UK. I don't feel like you have to play in the UK anymore full-time. I really don't. My mum misses me – I'm not sure about my dad! At least he gets to watch me on the TV. They will always be at the big events in the UK. It's nice to go back and see them. While I'm playing well, I have to knuckle down and do what is best."

He also disclosed: "My main base will be in Dubai, but my girlfriend lives in Hong Kong," Trump revealed. "I have residence in both Dubai and Hong Kong, so I'll be split between them depending on where the tournaments are. It's very different, completely different from what I'm used to. I'm used to my old life of just going to practice and then sitting at home all night, every day.

"I wouldn't have expected this, but my life has really changed for the better. I am able to enjoy myself a bit more off the table. It is nice to be living in a warmer climate and being able to experience that and the different cultures. I am in a good place off the table, and that is why I have been consistent over the past five or six years."
