Joel Embiid: 76ers star P****D OFF Charles Barkley for doing this on bench against Raptors
JOEL EMBIID was unable to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to victory against the Toronto Raptors in Game 5 on Wednesday, but there was one particular moment that had Charles Barkley fuming with the centre.
NBA: Joel Embiid reacts to Jimmy Butler’s trade to the 76ers
The Toronto-Philadelphia series has been a closely fought contest throughout the first four game, but that all changed in Game 5.
It looked as though it would follow the same path after the first quarter, but then Philadelphia imploded in the second.
The 76ers never recovered and ended up losing by 36 points with both Embiid and Ben Simmons having more turnovers (12) than made buckets (eight) through the first three quarters.
Embiid was questionable to play the game after missing team practice due to falling ill.
He ended up starting and played 31 minutes, but looked far from his best.
Brett Brown made the decision to pull his starters midway through the fourth quarter with the result a foregone conclusion.
But there was one moment with Embiid sat on the bench which "p*****d off" NBA legend Barkley.
"Embiid did not play well, he says he's sick," he said on NBA on TNT.
"He pissed me off reading the stat sheet.
"When you're down 30, you shouldn't be looking at the stat sheet on the bench.
"You should not be looking at that, that's wrong.
"Why you looking at the stat sheet? You're down 30 points."
He added: "What would be interesting was if it was the blowout the other way and you needed a couple something to get a triple-double.
"But I ain't never want to look at no stat sheet when you're down 30 in a playoff game."
