However, a shock new development suggested a trade has already been agreed.
NBA trade deadline LIVE updates
An article went up on Arizona Sports which stated that Ball was traded to the Suns, but the story has since been deleted.
And one author on reddit, who claims to have family ties to the television industry working on the Ball Family documentary, states a deal has been reached and it could be linked with Anthony Davis.
"He says they've already told Lonzo, and they're already in the process of moving the documentary to Phoenix," the post read.
"Believe me or not - it's be all over the news either in a couple of hours or in a day (Whenever they decide to release the info to the public)."
NBA: Anthony Davis SHOULDN'T be traded to Lakers says pundit
A screenshot of the since deleted article showed that the copy was a draft that was seemingly accidentally posted and had the page ready for when it became official.
If Ball is traded to the Suns in what could be a three-team trade with the Pelicans and Lakers, it looks as though Davis might in fact be joining up with LeBron James in Los Angeles.
It remains to be seen whether this comes to fruition in the coming days but with February 7 fast approaching, the Lakers are running out of time.
The Lakers have been frustrated in recent years with regards to trying to sign a league superstar.
While James put pen to paper on a four-year deal last summer, they missed out on Paul George.
And the San Antonio Spurs refused to do business with the Lakers for Kawhi Leonard, with the Toronto Raptors swooping in.
Davis is seemingly their number one target now and the Lakers are prepared to use any player not called LeBron James in a trade.
A third team in a trade may make sense to make the numbers work and the Suns have registered interest in Ball in the past.
