Todd Gurley: MVP claim made about NFL star ahead of Rams vs Chiefs - EXCLUSIVE
TODD GURLEY is in the running for MVP this season, according to former NFL cornerback Jason Bell.
Los Angeles Rams running-back Todd Gurley leads the way for touchdowns in the NFL this season with 13.
He also leads in rushing yards on 998 and he’s fourth on receiving yards with 402.
Gurley is expected to play a starring role once again tonight when the Kansas City Chiefs roll into town.
The clash was originally scheduled to be played at the Azteca Stadium but was moved back to Los Angeles given the poor condition of the field in Mexico City.
He’s up in the MVP race as the one non-quarterback offensive player
Bell has been immensely impressed with Gurley this season and credits his form for the Rams’ brilliant 9-1 start.
And speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Bell claims that the the 24-year-old is in with a shout for MVP.
“The offense goes through Todd Gurley, that’s how it works,” Bell said.
“They want to get him the ball and they want to get him running the ball between tackles and in space.
“If Todd Gurley is going, it works. The way the offense is set up - it’s a run-driven offense and they’ve got the guy who can do it.
“He’s up in the MVP race as the one non-quarterback offensive player.”
It is also Thanksgiving week in the United States, which is a significant day in the NFL schedule.
Asked about the link between the occasion and the sport, Bell added: “It’s the perfect combination. There’s nothing better.
“You want to be one of the teams playing on Thanksgiving. Its so big in the States.
“The holiday and football go hand in hand. You’re with your friends and family and you’ve got a ton of food.
“Then the NFL game pops on and you’re just locked in. It’s part of the culture. It is what people grow up remembering.
“And as a player, if you get the opportunity to play, you’re like ‘Oh my gosh I’ve watched this my whole life and now I’m playing on Thanksgiving’ - it’s such a great reward.”
