The camps were firmly divided heading into Super Bowl LIX – but few will have been as torn over the result as Jason Kelce. And the former Philadelphia Eagles star has opened up to brother Travis about just how hard it was to watch his old team beat his brother in such dominant fashion.

Almost one year after announcing his retirement from the NFL, Jason was in the stands at the Superdome as the Eagles mopped the floor with the Kansas City Chiefs. But he was unable to truly bask in his ex-team-mates' triumph, knowing his little brother was on the receiving end of that 40-22 pasting.

Jason, 37, struggled with the turmoil of staying loyal to his sibling while wanting to cheer on the franchise he represented for his entire 13-year career. And he appeared on the pair's New Heights podcast to detail just how torn he was in New Orleans.

"I still remember the first play – the AJ Brown penalty. Like, I jumped out of my seat [saying], 'that wasn't a penalty'," said Jason, describing the 28-yard reception his former team-mate recorded before being called back for offensive pass interference on the opening drive. "I jumped up outta my seat on that one.

"Then I jumped up outta my seat on the Nick Bolton hitting Dallas Goedert, because I thought that was a horses*** call. And I'm going back and forth. And it ended up just not being a fun game tobe a part of or watch.

"Because at all times – I don't even know what I wanna say, man. I really don't. Because no matter what, it's gonna p*** somebody off. And I probably shouldn't care if it p***es anybody off – that's the reality of it."

Travis attempted to reassure his big brother by saying: "That's the Jason Kelce we all know right there. You're giving these people way too much f***ing effort, too much of your time, too much attention."

One can understand the conflict of interests given Jason's feelings towards his brother. But any sadness on Travis' behalf is countered by his desire to not disappoint the city of Philadelphia, its fans, or his old colleagues by not celebrating as vigourously as he would if he was still playing.

Despite being born in Ohio, Jason has become an honorary Philadelphian and won his own Super Bowl with the team in 2018. However, it's well known just how close the Kelce brothers are.

Patrick Mahomes' collapse in Louisiana contributed to Kansas City missing out on a record-breaking third straight Super Bowl. But it meant the Eagles bagged their second championship from five Super Bowl appearances as they now look to mimic the Chiefs by going back-to-back in 2026.
