Peter Crouch spends £7.5k on 1,000 pints of Guinness at Cheltenham after losing bet
The ex-footy ace will have to stick his hand in his wallet once again.
Peter Crouch has been forced to spend £7,500 on 1000 pints of Guinness after losing a bet at this year's Cheltenham Festival. It's the second year Crouch has wagered with bookmaker Paddy Power, having had to spend big at the Festival this time 12 months ago.
The wager focused on the 3.20pm Stayers Hurdle, with Power having said: "If there’s an Irish-trained winner, he buys the pints. British-trained winner, I buy the pints. Last year we completely took his pants down to be fair."
He continued: "The whole field was Irish! But this year there’s a bit more of a fair fight, he’s got four of the 10 and three of the top five of the betting. He has the sweep this year but it was quite funny seeing the look on his face as he got the receipt.”
Crouch was asked how much he'd spent on the bet last year, but refused to be pressed on how much it actually cost. The former Liverpool man said: "It was around… I'm not going to say the exact number. It wasn't cheap! It was longer than my femur!"
There is a slight silver lining for Crouch this time around, as a pint of the black stuff has been cut in price by 30p. It means if he was to pay the same price as the punters, he'd be looking at paying £7.50 a pint. That's assuming the 45-year-old doesn't try and negotiate himself a special deal!

Home by The Lee was the winning horse responsible for Crouch having to spend big, with the 33/1 shot having stunned horses like Ballyburn and Teahupoo. Reacting to the win, owner Sean O'Driscoll said: "My son John, who is watching in this evening, John has never been at a race he's [the horse has won].
"He told me two weeks ago he couldn't come, then said he's changing his mind. But I said 'no John stay away', so John this is for you."
Before adding: "Never give up, that's the moral of the story. He has the heart of a lion, he's a very sound horse."
