Paco’s Sprint target
PACO BOY could run in the Haydock Sprint Cup next month as Richard Hannon edges closer to another trainers’ title. The Group One winning miler, who was last seen fi nishing third to 2,000 Guineas hero Makfi at Deauville, is already lined up for a place at Highclere Stud next season.
Another Group One prize would certainly help trainer Hannon’s bid to become champion again. He’s currently 8-13 with Coral to land that title. His son Richard, who gets married on the same day as the big race at Haydock –
September 4 – said yesterday: “Richard Hughes is one of the ushers, but he will fly back after racing as the wedding’s not until 5pm.
“The owners are keen to run as he’s got plenty of speed. He and Dick Turpin could also be entered in a mile race at Doncaster the following week.”
This weekend, though, sees the start of the valuable Tattersalls Millions series of races for two-year-olds and
netting a couple of these with the yard’s plentiful talent would seem to give Hannon his best chance of the trainers’ crown. The first of these, worth £100,000, is at Newmarket on Saturday.
“We will be running Zebedee,” said Hannon Jnr at a special media launch in London. “It will be his first attempt at six furlongs, but he’s got every chance of staying the trip. “We’ve got a lot of horses for the whole series as they cater for all sorts.”
