BMW PGA Championship 2017 at Wentworth: How to watch, latest odds, round 1 tee times
THE 2017 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth is underway - and here’s everything you need to know about the event.
BMW PGA Championship 2017: The championship at Wentworth gets underway today
The 2017 BMW PGA Championship is underway and runs until Sunday.
The winner will pocket €833,333 from the €5million prize fund.
The 2017 edition is the 63rd of the BMW PGA Championship and is played at Wentworth in Virginia Water, Surrey.
The BMW PGA Championship is the European Tour’s flagship event and is held at Wentworth each year.
On Wednesday Wentworth hosted a star-studded pro-am event where Ryan Giggs, Teddy Sherringham, Kevin Pietersen and co got involved on the new course.
Wentworth has undergone a huge £5million redevelopment which will hopefully make for a more exciting four days of action.
"I think the overriding thing for players will be the greens. We know how hard it is this time of year in the UK to get perfect greens, and it seems Wentworth have done everything possible to produce that for us,” Chris Wood said.
I’m absolutely delighted that it's been changed
Ian Poulter added: ”I’m absolutely delighted that it's been changed. I think the changes last time, on a number of holes, were too severe. This tournament deserves a golf course in fantastic condition, and I'm extremely excited to go out there and play because I would love to walk out of Wentworth Golf Club and say, 'I absolutely love it'."
European Tour director Keith Pelley said: “I think now we have an iconic golf course which matches what this iconic venue is, and now we can focus and concentrate our attention to plans for having this tournament here for the next 10 years."
Rory McIlroy, however, has pulled out of the tournament with a rib injury.
He said: “Having had a reaction to my earlier rib injury, I have been advised to take a conservative approach to my recovery which unfortunately means I have to withdraw from the BMW PGA Championship next week.
“It’s a disappointing decision to have to make, but I have to ensure I make a full recovery. I will now continue the process of preparing my game for the US Open and the rest of the season”.
