Open play back underway after torrential rains flood St Andrews Old Course
TORRENTIAL rain suspended play for over three hours on day two of the Open as the Old Course at St Andrews was flooded.
Standing water has forced groundkeepers at St Andrews to suspend play at the Open
Play began at 06:32 but was halted just 14 minutes later as greens, bunkers and fairways became submerged.
An inch of rain fell within two hours this morning, making the course unplayable until groundskeepers gave the green light at 10:00.
American Dustin Johnson carried the overnight lead into day two, having carded a seven-under 65 on a bright and breezy opening day in Fife.
He is closely followed by a host of players on six-under, including Englishman Danny Willett, Scot Paul Lawrie and Jason Day of Australia.
Tournament favourite Jordan Spieth, who won the Masters and US Open this year, lies one further behind.
Play is expected to commence on the Old Course later this morning
