A May 23 video shared on Facebook by former Louisville radio personality Maxwell Mitchell offered further insight into the recent arrest of golf star Scottie Scheffler. The 2024 Masters winner was arrested May 17 for allegedly driving through a police barricade and injuring an officer entering the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in the northern Kentucky city, but with the arresting officer's body cam turned off golf fans have clamoured for more information about the interaction.

The video posted by Mitchell captures Scheffler's conversation in the police car with an officer after his arrest, where the golfer explains his confusion about navigating the golf course and the barricade.

"I had to loop all the way around, that way it took me about probably a half hour," Scheffler said. "So I'm pulling in here, the police officer up there told me to come the opposite way with the traffic and then come in. And as I was pulling in, my window was down, and the officer told me to stop."

Scheffler then asserts that the police officer reached inside his car, with the accomplished golfer adding that he was fearful and he did not recognise it was a law enforcement official. Scheffler continued to drive with the officer attached to the vehicle. He was ultimately charged with second-degree assault on a police officer, among other charges, after

"I did get a little bit impatient because I'm quite late for my tee time," Scheffler said. "And as he was reaching in the car, he grabbed my shoulder and hit me. It seemed to be a little bit over-aggressive because the entrance was open. And I pulled a little bit because I was afraid I thought he was going to start hitting me, and I didn't know who he was. He didn't tell me he was a police officer, all I saw was the yellow jacket, I didn't know what he was doing."

The police officer conversing with Scheffler was unimpressed with the golfer's story, saying "We're wearing a lot of police gears. That surely signifies that we're the police." He also emphasised the damage that Scheffler's moving vehicle affected on the officer standing beside the barricade.

"Because you actually hurt him, and he's a police officer," the Louisville Metro Police official said. "Yes. He's got a huge scrape on his knee. He's getting checked by EMS, big bruise, so I don't know. But for you right now, the main question is if you're going to jail, and it's up to him."

Scheffler ultimately spent 72 minutes in a downtown Louisville jail that morning before returning to Valhalla to miraculously make his second-round tee time. He finished tied for eighth at the event, shooting 13 under par. On Wednesday the four charges against Scheffler would be dropped Wednesday, with both sides agreeing not to pursue any legal action.
