Man Utd transfer news: Phil Jones suggests Jose Mourinho could make TWO more signings
MANCHESTER UNITED star Phil Jones has suggested Jose Mourinho could still to be busy before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
Manchester United’s pre-season ended with a whimper in Germany on Sunday night as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich without registering a single shot on target.
Jose Mourinho has had to contend with a squad hampered by injuries this summer, as well as players still returning from their World Cup break.
He has spoken publicly about his desire to bring in more players this summer with Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant his only signings so far.
Speaking ahead of the friendly against Bayern, Mourinho seemed to challenge United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward by stating: “My CEO has known what I want for quite a long time.”
Express Sport understand the Red Devils will lodge an £80million bid for Harry Maguire in the coming days while rumours have been circulating about Anthony Martial’s future and other incomings.
We have brought in a couple of new faces and maybe we'll get a couple more
And it’s clear that talk of the speculation has spread throughout the United team, with Jones suggesting more business could happen before the close of the transfer window on Thursday.
Speaking after the defeat to Bayern Munich, he said: ”I thought we played well in patches but we're disappointed with the defeat.
“I’ve not trained for between 10 days and two weeks but it's all about getting fit and sharp ready for Friday.
“The lads look fresh and are enjoying themselves. I need to to improve my sharpness a little bit.
“The more I train and the more minutes I get the fitter I will get.
“We have brought in a couple of new faces and maybe we'll get a couple more.
“We need to improve and we need to challenge this season.”
