Chelsea transfer news: Man Utd hierarchy make decision on Willian and Anthony Martial swap
CHELSEA star Willian will not be swapping places with Manchester United star Anthony Martial this summer, according to reports.
Maurizio Sarri confident Willian will stay at Chelsea
Chelsea forward Willian is on Manchester United’s radar with the Red Devils seeking a successful end to the transfer window.
Jose Mourinho’s side have just five days to bring in new recruits but, so far, their top targets are proving elusive.
And United are unlikely to sign Chelsea forward Willian this summer.
The Brazil international, who has also been linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona, wanted out at the end of last term.
He had grown tired of life under Antonio Conte and, as a result, was prepared to press for an exit.
United and Chelsea have explored a swap deal that would involve Martial moving to Stamford Bridge as Willian’s replacement.
The France international is determined to quit Old Trafford after two years of toiling under Mourinho’s tutelage.
However, Manchester United chose to walk away from the Chelsea deal.
The club’s hierarchy thought that, from a business perspective, the transfer would not be beneficial.
Martial is just 22 with Willian seven years his senior.
And United chiefs reportedly thought it would be unwise to swap a young talent for experienced head - particularly with a Premier League rival.
Man Utd should take Willian in a heartbeat says expert
Martial now looks set to stay at United despite Mourinho wanting him off the books.
And what happens next remains to be seen.
Willian, meanwhile, has suggested he will be strutting his stuff for Chelsea this season.
He said: “[Leaving?] No, I’m back to England. I’m very happy at Chelsea.
“I’m very happy living in London.”
