LIVERPOOL have sent a message to the rest of the Premier League with their transfer business this summer - and they WILL be contenders for the title this season.
Liverpool could win the Premier League this season says pundit
That is the verdict of former Liverpool striker turned pundit Dean Saunders.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has made three new signings this summer, with Fabinho, Alisson and Shaqiri all arriving at Anfield.
Naby Keita has also joined the club from RB Leipzig after a deal was agreed last year, to take Liverpool’s overall spending to over £170million.
Saunders believes Klopp has solved the defensive issues from last year and reckons they can challenge Manchester City for top spot this term.
“What was the problem last year?,” Saunders said of Liverpool on talkSPORT.
I’m going to put my neck on the line, and I hope they don’t prove me wrong, but I think they’ve got a chance to win the league
“The squad wasn’t big enough, not enough on the bench, the goalkeeper was dodgy – Klopp has sorted that out.
“He’s plugged all the gaps, he’s been building and building.
“I’m looking at the front-three – they’re unstoppable. This has got to be the quickest team in the world, but they can also play as well.
“I’m going to put my neck on the line, and I hope they don’t prove me wrong, but I think they’ve got a chance to win the league.
“They’ve spent £172m in the summer – that is the gap closing. They’re spending the money.
“They’ve sent a message out to the world – we’re trying to win the Premier League and Champions League.
“Jurgen Klopp is looking around now and thinking, ‘I’ve got such a good squad all of a sudden!’
“The manager is driven and I think Liverpool have got a great chance of winning the league [this season].”
