Man Utd transfer news: Jose Mourinho told NOT to complete deal if he wants to win league
MANCHESTER UNITED must not sell David De Gea if they harbour hopes of winning major honours in the coming years, claims Ray Parlour.
De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent transfer windows.
The Spaniard has reportedly agreed a new contract at Manchester United but is yet to put pen to paper to keep him at Old Trafford.
Parlour won four league titles during his playing career at Arsenal and knows having a solid goalkeeper is a key for success.
And he says, despite having a poor World Cup, United boss Jose Mourinho must ensure De Gea stays at the club long term.
If you’re going to win leagues and win trophies, you’ve got to have a good keeper
“He had a poor World Cup,” Parlour said on talkSPORT.
“We all remember that mistake against Portugal early in the tournament.
“He’s a top-class goalkeeper, Man United don’t want to be losing him.
“He’s been brilliant for Manchester United, David De Gea. I think he’s committed to Manchester United now isn’t he, he signed a long-term contract. So he’s happy there.

“We all know, Manchester United are the biggest club in the world, or one of the biggest clubs in the world. So he’s happy.
“But certainly, if you’re going to lose a keeper, we know how important keepers are.
“If you’re going to win leagues and win trophies, you’ve got to have a good keeper.”
De Gea and Spain suffered a shock exit at the World Cup, crashing out at the last-16 stage to hosts Russia.
