Liverpool transfer news: Nabil Fekir holds TWO meetings with Lyon chief during World Cup
NABIL FEKIR has met with Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas twice during France's World Cup campaign.
Liverpool had hoped to sign the playmaker before he jetted off to Russia last month.
However, an 11th hour complication after Fekir's medical put an abrupt stop to the deal.
The attacking midfielder still wants a his 'dream' Merseyside move this summer.
And according to the Daily Mirror, Fekir has been working behind the scenes to ensure he eventually gets his Liverpool switch this month.
The Lyon star has met Aulas twice during this World Cup, most recently after France's 1-0 semi-final win over Belgium.
The French owner was in the dressing room with Didier Deschamps and his players to celebrate the win earlier this week.
Fekir's advisor Jean-Pierre Bernes has also met Aulas to discuss the collapsed move to Anfield in a bid to get talks back on track over the £53m switch.
Aulas has tried his best to keep hold of his star man over the summer but now seems resigned to the fact Lyon will lose Fekir this summer.
But speaking recently, the Frenchman admitted Manchester United had also expressed an interest.
Liverpool: Fekir deal re-ignited as Lyon seek replacement
“I was with Jose Mourinho the other day. We had long discussions," Aulas said.
“Personally, I am no longer in discussions with Liverpool.
“At the moment, we are waiting for France and Nabil to have a fantastic World Cup.”
Liverpool look set to sign Xherdan Shaqiri in the coming days, with the Swiss star preparing to undergo a medical at Melwood in the near future.
