Celtic transfer news: Brendan Rodgers struggling to convince Liverpool over loan deal
CELTIC boss Brendan Rodgers faces a major battle to convince Liverpool to loan him Harry Wilson.
The Welsh international is among Brendan Rodgers’ top targets, along with Hibs midfielder John McGinn.
The Hoops have already failed in a bid of around £1.5million for McGinn but will go back in again.
The Scottish champions are keen on a season-long loan for Wilson, but it’s understood the Anfield club are reluctant to sanction the deal.
Wilson is in talks with Liverpool over a new contract, and is also on the verge of Jurgen Klopp’s first team.
If they do decide to put the 21-year-old out on loan again they would prefer to keep him in England after his successful loan spell at Hull City last season.
The Tigers and Championship rivals Norwich City are among clubs who want him back.
Another major reservation Liverpool have is the fact that Charly Musonda’s loan move from Chelsea to Celtic ended prematurely and without great success.
Patrick Roberts did prove slightly more successful when he came up from Manchester City, although his second spell wasn’t as productive.
The one thing that Rodgers has in his favour is that he has worked with Wilson before at Anfield.
Celtic are trying to tie up business ahead of tonight’s Champions League deadline, although they can still field a wildcard signing against FC Alashkert after that.
Everton are also expected to push on with their £25m bid for Kieran Tierney in the coming days.
