England player ratings against Colombia: Kane heroic, Dier earns redemption via penalties
HARRY KANE was on target yet again as England battled their way past Colombia on penalties to book a spot in the World Cup quarter-finals.
England earned a spot in the World Cup quarter-finals after beating Colombia on penalties.
Harry Kane scored the opening goal of the game from the penalty spot after being dragged down by former Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez.
However, Yerry Mina equalised with a header deep into injury time to force an extra 30 minutes following a stunning save from Jordan Pickford.
England then kept their cool during the penalty shootout with four out of five efforts succesfull – with Eric Dier stepping up to hit the winning spotkick after a poor cameo off the bench.
The game was fragmented by numerous controversial incidents, with Colombia in particular aggrieved by some of the referee’s decision.
