Man Utd transfer news: Real Madrid star Gareth Bale urged to make Old Trafford switch
GARETH BALE can only really step out of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s shadows if he leaves Real Madrid for Manchester United.
Those are the thoughts of ex-Red Devils star Mickey Thomas.
Although Bale has won four Champions League crowns during his spell at the Bernabeu, the mercurial Welshman has been plagued by injuries and has failed at times to set alight La Liga.
Manchester United are still hunting Bale, with Jose Mourinho keen to make some marquee signings.
Bale is expected to hold talks with Real’s new manager Julen Lopetegui, but United are still reportedly readying a swoop even though Ed Woodward is of the knowledge that Bale could cost in excess of £100million.
I wouldn’t want to finish a career like his without a Premier League winner’s medal
Previous reports have linked Bale to Bayern Munich, but Thomas thinks it is time that the former Tottenham winger must head back to the Premier League if he wants to finish his career on a high.
“He’s got enough money. Surely now it’s not how much he can earn,” Thomas told the Sunday Mirror.
“His CV would be enriched and complete with a Premier League winner’s medal. I’d argue that is worth more than all the money he gets.
“OK, I know he has won La Liga and the Champions League with Real Madrid, but he hasn’t won the Premier League.
“I wouldn’t want to finish a career like his without a Premier League winner’s medal.
“Unfortunately, he’s had Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar blocking his path to becoming the best player in the world.
“If he came to England and started doing the business, winning trophies in this country, then it will have been the perfect career.
“He could go to Germany and play for Bayern Munich, but it’s time to prove himself in the Premier League.”
