But his BBC pundit Danny Murphy was far from impressed with Di Maria’s overall display leading up to the goal.
France took the lead from the penalty spot when Kylian Mbappe was chopped down by Manchester United's Marcos Rojo with Antoine Griezmann slotting home the spot-kick.

And France continued to dominate with Mbappe causing all sorts of problems for Argentina's sluggish defence.
All eyes were leading to Lionel Messi to step up and be his country's saviour but it was Di Maria that rose to the occasion.
The Paris Saint-Germain attacker picked up the ball on the edge of the box before unleashing a ferocious effort towards the top right corner to send Argentina fans crazy.
However, Di Maria's performance prior to his strike left a lot to be desired for according to former England international Murphy.
“Di Maria keeps getting the ball and going backwards,” Murphy said while on commentary duty for the BBC.
“He is playing with fear and he is not trying to take anyone on. Too safe.”
