Arsenal transfer news: Marouane Fellaini SNUBBED Gunners to sign new Man Utd contract
MAROUANE FELLAINI agreed a new deal with Manchester United AFTER holding talks with Arsenal.
The Belgian put pen to paper on a new two-year deal on Friday, ending a long-running saga over his future at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho has always insisted he wanted to keep Fellaini at the club.
But the midfielder was attracting a lot of interest from sides such as Arsenal, PSG, Besiktas among others.
And according to The Times, Fellaini was in talks to join the Gunners earlier this summer, before performing a stunning U-turn to remain at the Red Devils.
The publication reports the player met with Arsenal's head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat to discuss a potential switch to the Emirates.
However, when United offered Fellaini a two-year deal this month, it was enough to persuade the player to stay.
The Red Devils have broken their usual protocol in offering the former Everton star a new contract.
Arsenal have 'dodged a bullet' by not signing Fellaini says fan
United's policy means they only usually only offer one-year deals to players over 30.
The club initially wanted Fellaini to agree to a 12-month contract before deciding to double the length of the offer.
Arsenal will instead turn to the likes of Ever Banega and Lucas Torreira to bolster their midfield this summer.
