Man Utd transfer news: Ledley King discusses Toby Alderweireld move - EXCLUSIVE
MANCHESTER UNITED transfer target Toby Alderweireld should stay at Tottenham, however, Spurs can survive without the defender, Ledley King says.
The Belgium international, who is out of contract next summer, has been tipped to quit Tottenham and head north to Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of Alderweireld, 29, with the United boss keen to bolster his defensive ranks this summer.
Spurs are demanding around £70m for the centre-back this summer, with the Red Devils only willing to fork out £50m for Alderweireld.
And former Tottenham ace King says he would love for Alderweireld to stay in north London, however, he admits Spurs have proved they can cope without their key man.
When asked whether Alderweireld is likely to quit Tottenham for United, King, speaking at the William Hill Arms, exclusively told Express Sport: “At the moment I’m sure he’s concentrating on Belgium and after that, he’ll let the situation take care of itself.
He’s a top player, of course I’d like to see him stay
“He’s obviously a top player but last season he didn’t play too many games, he missed a lot through injury.
“The team seemed to cope and do well without him. He’s a top player, of course I’d like to see him stay.”
Alderweireld started just 13 Premier League games under Mauricio Pochettino this season.
The defender was sidelined with a hamstring injury picked up last November, which kept him out of action until March.
