Man Utd transfer news: Jose Mourinho closing in on third summer deal
MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly closing in on their third summer signing.
David De Gea looks ahead to Premier League 2018/19
Jose Mourinho has already made a splurge in the transfer window, bringing in Diogo Dalot from Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred for a combined fee of £71million.
Manchester United could see a number of departures before the new Premier League season gets underway with Mourinho eager to mount a more sustained title challenge next term.
While a centre-back is a priorirty, it seems that United could now swoop in for a goalkeeper.
Question marks have been placed over David de Gea’s future with Real Madrid long-term admirers.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the Red Devils are hoping to clinch a deal to sign former England Under-21 shot-stopper Lee Grant as their No 3 choice behind De Gea and Sergio Romero.
The report suggests the likelihood is that he will join as a free agent and sign a one-year deal.
Although having a good third-choice goalkeeper is hard to come by, United feel they need to strengthen in this area.
Should they sign Grant, it would be a real boost as he has a wealth of experience between the sticks.
He has amassed over 500 appearances at clubs including Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley.
Although he only made his Premier League debut in 2016, Grant will have caught Mourinho’s eye in Stoke’s 2-2 draw against United last term at the Britannia Stadium.
