Sergio Aguero dropped after World Cup BUST-UP with Argentina boss Sampaoli – Jenas
JERMAINE JENAS believes Sergio Aguero has been dropped after a bust-up with Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli.
The Manchester City striker has scored Argentina’s only goal of the World Cup so far but he was axed for the must-win Nigeria clash.
Instead, Gonzalo Higuain has started up front and Jenas thinks there’s a serious reason behind Aguero’s omission
Commentating for the BBC, Jenas said: “Higuain is a top player but I don’t agree with it.
“There’s obviously been a disagreement between Aguero and the manager because all day you’d have Aguero as your number nine.”
Argentina must beat Nigeria tonight and hope Iceland do not get a victory over group toppers Croatia to qualify.
Despite being dropped, former Argentina star Pablo Zabaleta insists Aguero will still influence the build-up to the clash.
"I have been there with this Argentina team when things have been going well - and when they haven't - and I know what the build-up will be like," he said.
"Sergio Aguero will make sure the right music is there for everyone. We always listen to cumbia, a traditional Argentine music, before the game.
"It is similar to reggaeton because it brings happiness and the players love it, especially in the dressing room.
“That was what worked for us in Brazil at the 2014 World Cup."
Aguero has already caused a storm at the World Cup this summer after walking away from journalists after the defeat 3-0 defeat to Croatia.
Asked “do we need a miracle now?” he quickly shook his head and dashed away from the microphones, much to the annoyance of Argentina’s media.
