Gonzalo Higuain: Chelsea could watch Argentina striker tonight… but there’s a catch
CHELSEA are interested in signing Argentina’s World Cup striker Gonzalo Higuain - but they may struggle to get a deal done.
Chelsea are set to appoint Maurizio Sarri as their new manager this week.
Sarri has expressed to the Blues board the transfer targets he wants to sign this summer.
And Goal claim Higuain is on that list.
The Juventus striker is set to play for Argentina tonight in their crunch World Cup clash with Nigeria.
And Chelsea scouts may be looking out for how he performs.
However, there may be a catch that scuppers Sarri’s dreams of signing the striker even if he impresses in Russia this summer.
Goal claim Sarri may struggle to convince Chelsea’s board that Higuain makes financial sense.
Not only with Juve demand around £45m to £50m for the forward, but his age is also a concern for the Blues.
Higuain turns 31 in December and Chelsea have a policy of not offering contracts of longer than one year to anyone over the age of 30.
It could leave the board with a dilemma this summer as Sarri settles into his new role.
Express Sport understands the Italian, 59, has finally agreed terms with Chelsea and that Napoli have shown willingness to let him break his contract with them.
Higuain played under Sarri at the Naples club before he was sold to Juve for £75m in 2016.
