Harry Kane: Cristiano Ronaldo claim made following England World Cup goals against Tunisia
ENGLAND captain Harry Kane would have been studying the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo leading up to the World Cup as he went in search of his first tournament goal.
That is according to legendary England and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer.
Harry Kane scored twice for Gareth Southgate’s side to lead them to a dramatic late 2-1 win over Tunisia in their first group G match.
The 24-year-old was goalless at Euro 2016 so has started the World Cup in perfect fashion.
The Tottenham star’s first was a tap in but Shearer believes it was a huge weight off his shoulders.
He’d have been sat for the last week looking at Cristiano Ronaldo, looking at (Antoine) Griezmann, looking at all these guys scoring goals
“I can’t stress enough the importance and the confidence, not that he needs it,” he said on BBC One.
“He’d have been sat for the last week looking at Cristiano Ronaldo, looking at (Antoine) Griezmann, looking at (Paul) Pogba, looking at all these guys scoring goals.
“He knows that we’re going to be talking about him at tournament football, not having a goal.
“That will give him huge confidence.
Pundits celebrate Harry Kane's last minute goal against Tunisia
“You know as a centre-forward, to get off the mark in your first go, bring the games on.
“He won’t be sleeping tonight, that’s for sure.”
England's next group game is against Panama this Sunday.
They lost their opening game 3-0 to Belgium earlier today.
