Cristiano Ronaldo: Real Madrid snubbed by Harry Kane because of Portuguese star - claim
HARRY KANE apparently turned down a move to Real Madrid because of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Kane penned a six-year extension with Tottenham last week, putting to bed any rumours of a move to Real Madrid.
However, Spanish outlet Don Balon say the England international only rejected a switch to the Bernabeu because of Ronaldo.
It is claimed that Kane wants to be the main man in the central striker position but that would not be the case if he left Spurs.
Ronaldo has transitioned from a winger to a striker over recent years as he reaches the latter end of his career.
Even the speculation of Ronaldo leaving Real could not convince Kane to join Los Blancos, Don Balon add.
The Spurs hitman was supposedly convinced that nobody would gamble to sign the 33-year-old on such high wages, so he will now stay in north London for the foreseeable future.
Tottenham have always expressed their desire to keep Kane at the club and they can now kick on with their own summer recruitment plans.
Mauricio Pochettino has also ruled out replacing Zinedine Zidane this summer so he is planning to take Spurs into their new stadium next season.
The Argentine is expected to strengthen his squad to challenge for the Premier League title.
Harry Winks and Davinson Sanchez have already agreed long-term deals this summer.
