Man Utd transfer news: Anthony Martial named as shock Liverpool target for Jurgen Klopp
MANCHESTER UNITED star Anthony Martial has been linked with a move to Liverpool by a local publication.
Anthony Martial shows off stunning skills for France
Manchester United star Martial could leave Old Trafford this summer having struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho.
The France international started last term in fine form but, following Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from Arsenal, his performances waned.
The Manchester United star has been omitted from France’s World Cup squad due to his failure to deliver for Jose Mourinho.
And the Liverpool Echo have named him as among players who could be in Jurgen Klopp’s sights this summer.
Liverpool have sprung several major shocks in the transfer market in recent times.
They sensationally signed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal last summer, despite Chelsea trying to muscle in.
And the Liverpool Echo name Martial as another player who could make a surprise move.
However, they admit that any United transfer deal would be difficult to pull off.
Players rarely move between the two rivals, with Gabriel Heinze famously failing to do so in 2006.
The former Argentina international was desperate to make the move to Anfield.
But United legend Sir Alex Ferguson refused to let him go, instead choosing to flog him to Real Madrid.
Liverpool are unlikely to sign Martial.
But Klopp could coax the best from him in a way current United boss Mourinho has failed to do so.
The 22-year-old is likely to be inundated with offers should he press for an Old Trafford exit.
Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Juventus have all been linked.
