La Liga news: Atletico Madrid expect Liverpool or Arsenal to seal Jan Oblak transfer
LIVERPOOL and Arsenal are battling to land Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak this month, according to reports.
Liverpool and Arsenal could both sign goalkeepers during the summer transfer window.
The Reds’ need to sign a new No 1 was evident on Saturday, where two Loris Karius errors cost them Champions League glory.
Arsenal, meanwhile, require a fresher shot-stopper with Petr Cech approaching the twilight years of his career.
And Spanish website El Gol Digital say the Premier League duo are fighting to land Oblak this summer.
The Slovenia international was originally linked with PSG.
However, the Ligue 1 giants appear to be nearing a deal for Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon instead.
Buffon left Juventus and is eyeing one more challenge before hanging up his gloves.
El Gol Digital say PSG’s decision to pursue Buffon rather than Oblak could work into Arsenal and Liverpool’s hands.
And Atletico are even said to be preparing for life without their No 1.
Manager Diego Simeone is reportedly ready to pay Kepa Arrizabalaga’s €80 million release clause.
The Spain international was widely expected to join Real Madrid during the January transfer window.
But he ultimately chose to snub a move to the Bernabeu in favour of remaining at San Mames Stadium.

Meanwhile, speaking last month, Atletico ace Oblak refused to rule out joining Liverpool or Arsenal.
"No news. I have the contract that I signed two years ago," Oblak said.
"What will happen well nobody knows, not even me.
“I prefer to finish the season well and hopefully with a title. Then we'll see but I have a contract.
“I do not think of anything other than Atletico."
