Arsenal transfer news: Stephan Lichtsteiner deal agreed, announcement due on contract
ARSENAL have agreed a one-year contract with Stephan Lichtsteiner, claim reports in Italy.
The Gunners have been speaking to Lichtsteiner’s camp in recent days about a free transfer from Italy.
The Swiss defender is free to leave Juventus as his contract expires this summer.
And details of his terms with Arsenal have emerged.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim an announcement is due on the centre-back joining the Gunners.
Lichtsteiner, 34, has spent the last seven years at Juve.
Gazzetta claim the agreement was made on Wednesday morning after talks between the two parties.
His contract at the Premier League club will run until June 30, 2019.
All that is needed now is for Lichtsteiner himself to sign off on the contract and the club will unveil him as their new player.
Asked about his desire to earn one last big pay day before retiring, Lichtsteiner said last week: “I don’t chase money and I need a place where I’ll have a good quality of life.
“My wife and children have to be happy and that wouldn’t be the case in China. I don’t need more money.”
Arsenal have also been linked with a swoop for free agent Mario Balotelli.
The Italy international’s agent, Mino Raiola, is speaking to Roma about a possible move to Serie A.
