Rangers news: Steven Gerrard sent Liverpool warning over Ibrox future by Terry Butcher
STEVEN GERRARD is jeopardising his chances of managing Liverpool if things go wrong at Rangers.
That is the verdict of Rangers legend Terry Butcher.
Gerrard has been working as Liverpool’s academy coach for over a year and he was appointed as the Gers boss earlier this month.
The 37-year-old has been tasked with trying to help the Scottish giants escape the shadow of Old Firm rivals Celtic.
But Butcher has warned Gerrard that he may not get the chance to manage Liverpool one day if things don’t work out at Ibrox.
“It’s sink or swim in many aspects. Going to Rangers as a player is difficult,” Butcher told the Daily Mirror.
You have to test yourself and there’s no bigger test than being at Rangers
“Going to Rangers as a manager is extremely difficult.
“It’s a very brave decision. I think Chris Sutton said that if he doesn’t do well, he might not get a shot at Liverpool, and that’s what he really wants.
“You have to test yourself and there’s no bigger test than being at Rangers.
“If they were equal, it would still be a massive job. If they brought in Stevie, then it might edge Rangers ahead.
“But they are not equal. They are a long way apart. If Celtic move further ahead, if they try to buy like they are planning this summer, then it will be even harder because they are already a long way ahead of Rangers.
“It’s a club that demands perfection. It wants to be level with Celtic. I don’t know if he has the funds.”
