Arsene Wenger is a legend and his Arsenal legacy has not been tarnished - Gary Neville
ARSENE WENGER is a legend of the Premier League and his Arsenal legacy has not been tarnished by the last two years, claims Gary Neville.
Arsene Wenger took charge of his final Arsenal game today
Wenger will leave Arsenal following today’s 1-0 final-day win over Huddersfield.
Many Gunners supporters have wanted the Frenchman to leave earlier and were against the new contract he signed last summer.
Neville agrees the last two campaigns have been tough on Wenger, with Arsenal missing out on Champions League qualification.
But the Manchester United legend thinks Wenger will be remembered more for his early success.
He’s done his job, he’s done his work and he’s a legend of the Premier League, he’s a legend of English football
“We won’t see a manager for that period ever again,” Neville said of Arsene Wenger on Sky Sports.
“He deserves a lot of credit. He doesn’t have anything to prove to anybody.
“He’s done his job, he’s done his work and he’s a legend of the Premier League, he’s a legend of English football.
“The last two years have been difficult but that won’t be remembered in 15-20 years time, it really won’t.
Wenger signs off Arsenal career with win against Huddersfield
Arsene Wenger said goodbye to the Arsenal fans following the win at Huddersfield
“It will be the achievement, the longevity, the stadium, the football he played, his values in terms of how he behaved as an individual.
“So from that point of view his legend is set and he deserves all the credit he is getting.
“He’s finally able to walk over to those Arsenal fans and every ground in the country and get celebrated which is nice, because the last two years have been difficult.
“Seeing the banners, seeing the marches up to the ground. Even the Arsenal fans wouldn’t have wanted that.”
