Arsene Wenger successor: Arsenal have plan in place if they fail to appoint top target
ARSENAL have reportedly come up with a contingency plan if they can’t persuade Massimiliano Allegri to replace Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal are preparing for life after Arsene Wenger
Arsenal are currently searching for a new manager after Wenger decided last month he would be stepping down at the end of the season after 22 years in charge.
Juventus coach Allegri, who is closing in on a fourth successive Serie A title, has been at the forefront of the Gunners’ mind, although he wouldn’t come cheap.
Allegri himself, some reports have suggested, is open to taking over the reins from Wenger.
Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is also in the frame, but supposedly has issues over the club’s structure.
Carlo Ancelotti is a contingency option if Arsenal fail to appoint Allegri
Arsenal have back-up plan if they don't hire Massimiliano Allegri
Chief executive Ivan Gazidis, head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat have been tasked with appointing Wenger’s successor.
While Allegri is the Gunners’ top target, the Daily Star suggest Carlo Ancelotti is the club’s ‘Plan B’.
Ancelotti would no doubt be a safe pair of hands, having already achieved success at Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and AC Milan in his managerial career.
Allegri supposedly wants £11million a year if he is to manage in north London.
Also on the Gunners’ wishlist is Liverpool No 2 Zeljko Buvac, who is currently on leave from Anfield for personal reasons, although he would be a left field choice.
Arsenal gave Wenger the perfect Emirates send-off on Sunday when they thrashed Burnley 5-0.
They have two games left to play this season - away to Leicester and Huddersfield in the Premier League.
