After starting the match with a 5-2 deficit from the first leg, Roma’s task got even harder as Sadio Mane put Liverpool ahead at the Stadio Olimpico and then Gini Wijnaldum made it 2-1 on the night.
Roma hit back and won the match 4-2 however they lost 7-6 on aggregate. But in the second half Roma were denied two penalties which could have turned the tie.
Firstly Edin Dzeko was adjudged to be offside before he was felled by Loris Karius in the penalty area.

Then the match officials failed to spot a handball by Trent Alexander-Arnold which denied Roma a certain goal.
And after the match, Pallotta fumed at the decision.
He said: “I want to say first of all congratulations to Liverpool. But I think this has shown why we need VAR in the Champions League. When you see stuff like this going on, it is an absolute joke.”
