But despite that, Shearer does not believe Arsene Wenger deserves the criticism he has received from supporters.

“Yeah I think so (it’s the right time),” Shearer said.
“I thought perhaps he could have gone after the FA Cup win last season.
“They’re obviously still in with a big chance of winning the Europa League, I hope they do because of him, because of what he achieved at Arsenal.
“But I didn’t like the criticism and the voices that you could hear from the Arsenal fans.

“A lot of them were shouting for him to go.
“I think that was sad because a guy of his stature that’s achieved so much in that football club and, as we say, in English football.
“I just thought it was sad to see. So yes, it is the right time.”
