Liverpool will beat Man City in Champions League if they do this - Neil Mellor
LIVERPOOL will beat Manchester City in their Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash tonight if they repeat their performance from when the sides met in January.
Liverpool face Man City in the Champions League quarter finals
That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool forward Neil Mellor.
Manchester City are favourites heading into the last-eight clash at Anfield and the tie overall.
Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to complete the treble this season, with the Premier League title set to be added to the Carabao Cup.
But Liverpool can take hope from knowing they are the only team to have beaten City in the league this season.
I think if Liverpool were to repeat that sort of performance, that would be advantage for Liverpool after this first leg
That was a dramatic 4-3 win in January, where they initially led 4-1 at Anfield.
And Mellor says a repeat of that showing will put Liverpool ahead going into the second leg.
“I think if Liverpool were to repeat that sort of performance, and they’re going to need to against this Manchester City outfit tonight, that would be advantage for Liverpool after this first leg,” he said.
“I think after that game, it was absolutely superb wasn’t it in January, the big difference at the end of that game was Liverpool got belief and confidence that they could beat this Manchester City side.

Mellor says Liverpool will beat Man City if they repeat their Premier League performance
“At times this season they’ve looked unbeatable, we’ve seen in the Premier League they have been consistently on their game repeatedly, week in week out.
“That’s why it’s looking inevitable that they will win the Premier League title.
“But Liverpool, on that day in January, showed that they can beat this Manchester City side.”
