Chelsea news: Eden Hazard provides his own verdict on Lionel Messi comparisons
CHELSEA star Eden Hazard has brushed aside comparisons to Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi.
Eden Hazard has won a lot of plaudits during his time at Chelsea
Hazard’s ability to drift past defenders for Chelsea and his eye for a killer pass has seen him spoken of in the same breath as the Argentine great.
Messi, meanwhile, a five-time Ballon d’Or has been locked in a captivating rivalry with Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo for the past decade.
While Hazard is viewed as more of a creator as opposed to a natural goalscorer, Messi has been prolific during his time at the Nou Camp, continuously netting 40 times or more every season.
Hazard’s form has seen him talked up with a summer move to Real Madrid, as Zinedine Zidane seeks to overhaul his squad.
We cannot be compared to Messi. It’s impossible. He scores in all the matches
Recent reports have suggested that Manchester City are plotting a shock swoop for the 27-year-old and has got in touch with the playmaker.
With the former Premier League Player of the Year continuing to amaze, he is adamant about one thing.
And that is he isn’t the same bracket of class as Messi.
When asked ahead of Belgium’s friendly against Saudi Arabia tomorrow (7.45pm) if the Messi comparisons are fair, Hazard was unequivocal.
Eden Hazard doesn't think he will get to Lionel Messi's level
Roy Keane: Eden Hazard is WAY behind Messi
He said: “We cannot be compared to Messi. It’s impossible.
“We’re small and we’re quick, but he scores in all the matches.”
Hazard will be hoping to get Chelsea’s league campaign back on track on Sunday when they host top-four rivals Tottenham (4pm).
