Manchester City took a giant step towards the Premier League title when they beat Chelsea 1-0 at the Etihad on Sunday.
Manchester United leapfrogged Liverpool back into second spot at Selhurst Park courtesy of a 3-2 victory.
While Jose Mourinho’s men have fared well against their main rivals, they lost against Newcastle last month and dropped points against Leicester and Burnley which has checked their title challenge.
And Matic, who scored a fabulous winner against Palace, has identified this as the key area his side must improve in if they want to challenge next season.
n the smaller games we drop some very important points, and we can’t lose those points like at Leicester
“We are improving, we need to do more for sure,” Matic said.
“In the smaller games we drop some very important points, and we can’t lose those points like at Leicester away.
"In these kind of games if we can manage to win we can compete for the title.
Nemanja Matic thinks Manchester United have to pick up more points against the smaller sides
“The quality is there but we have to be honest, we need to do more.
"There are five or six teams in this division that can compete for the title.
“We will have a lot of confidence, once you win a game the supporters have confidence in you and it makes it easier."
