Joaquin Correa and Steven N'Zonzi also went close but they could not find a way past the resilient Spaniard.
And Smalling thinks the atmosphere during the match made it difficult for his side as they were forced to defend deep.

“Bar the five minutes at the end of the first half, they didn’t have clear-cut chances.

Smalling believes United will win the second leg at home.
“The atmosphere was very loud and emotional here and we had to dig in at times.
"They tired in the last 20 mins and we tries to pressure them. It was open in the second half."
United now need to beat Sevilla in the second leg to progress to the quarter-finals.
