Real Madrid have been tracking the Spaniard for over two years, ever since Iker Casillas left the club in 2015.
The La Liga champions came close to signing De Gea that summer but the deal fell through at the final hour because of a faulty fax machine.
However, current number one Keylor Navas is not cutting it in the Spanish capital and Real will be in the market for a new keeper this summer.
So in anticipation of an approach, Man Utd have began looking for De Gea’s successor.
David De Gea is wanted by Real Madrid.
And according to the Sun, Everton’s Jordan Pickford has been highlighted as his eventual replacement.
The 23-year-old only joined the Toffees in the summer but he cost £30million to prize away from Sunderland.
Jose Mourinho is said to have been impressed with the England internationals form since he moved to Goodison Park.
