Moreno explains 'struggle' between Coutinho and Messi
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and former Major League Soccer star Alejandro Moreno.
Philippe Coutinho joined Barcelona from Liverpool for £142million earlier this month.
After missing almost three weeks with injury, the Brazilian made his first start for the La Liga giants in the 2-1 win over Alaves yesterday but struggled to make an impact, before being substituted after 65 minutes.
Moreno has warned Coutinho that Messi will not change his style to accommodate his arrival in the team.
Philippe Coutinho will have to adjust to Lionel Messi at Barcelona, claims Moreno
Fabregas had difficulties with that, Alexis Sanchez had difficulties with that. Even Neymar at times had difficulties with that
But he reckons that is a problem Coutinho is good enough to overcome with time, just like previous Barcelona stars have done.
“Lionel Messi’s not going to adjust to Coutinho, Coutinho will have to adjust to Messi," the Venezuelan said on ESPN FC.
“Some players haven’t been able to thrive in that role.
Philippe Coutinho speaks after making his Barcelona debut
The likes of Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas had a similar issue to Philippe Coutinho, says Moreno
“Fabregas had difficulties with that, Alexis Sanchez had difficulties with that.
“Even Neymar at times had difficulties with that. It wasn’t an immediate success.
“So it’s going to take some time but Coutinho is a talented player, so you think talented players will find ways of playing together.”
