Everton 1 - West Brom 1: James McCarthy leg-break overshadows game
STRIKER Oumar Niasse scored the fastest goal by a Premier League substitute this season but it was the horrific injury suffered by his Everton team-mate James McCarthy which left a last impression.
James McCarthy broke his leg against West Brom
Sam Allardyce’s 1,000th game as a manager was overshadowed by the broken leg suffered by his midfielder, who attempted to nip in and pinch the ball as Salomon Rondon prepared to shoot.
Unfortunately the Venezuelan’s follow-through connected with McCarthy’s lower right leg.
Medics rushed onto the field to treat the Ireland international, with Rondon in tears having seen the aftereffects close up.
Niasse’s goal came just 56 seconds after he replaced £28million signing Cenk Tosun in the second half.
The forward volleyed in from debutant Theo Walcott’s assist to cancel out Jay Rodriguez’s seventh-minute opener.
It secured Everton’s first point since their dreary goalless draw at The Hawthorns on Boxing Day and prevented the Baggies moving out of the relegation zone.

Walcott, making his fi rst league start since April after leaving Arsenal on Wednesday, grew into the game, while sarcastic cheers accompanied defender Jonjoe Kenny’s shot from distance – Everton’s first on target in the league in over in four hours.
Allardyce said: “The performance was a big blow for me. I don’t think there’s much more I can say.”
