Liverpool in talks for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez but transfer has major snag
LIVERPOOL are showing interest in Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, according to reports in Spain.
James Rodriguez scores his first Bundesliga goal for Bayern
James Rodriguez has turned things things around since joining Bayern Munich on loan from Real Madrid and is attracting attention from Europe’s top clubs.
Spanish outlet Don Balon claim Liverpool are among those interested in signing the Colombia international on a permanent deal.
The report says the Anfield club have identified him as a potential replacement for Philippe Coutinho and have entered into talks with his agent.
However, the Reds could struggle to agree a transfer for the 26-year-old due to his loan agreement with Bayern.
Liverpool have reportedly been in contact with James Rodriguez's representatives
Rodriguez joined the German side last summer on a two-year temporary deal and would need to return to Real before a permanent move could be agreed.
Liverpool are said to be targeting the midfielder as a summer signing - allowing time for agreements with both clubs to be met.
Don Balon claim Real want to sell the Colombian and are keen to retrieve much of the £70million they paid of him in 2014.
However, they could be frustrated by Bayern if the Bundesliga champions refuse to terminate their loan agreement early.
Jurgen Klopp is said to be a huge admirer of James Rodriguez
Since making the move to Germany, Rodriguez has found his feet and has been in fine form this season.
He has made 13 Bundesliga appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
Speaking this week about his long-term future at Real Madrid, the South American seemed to suggest he would not return to play under Zinedine Zidane.
"The figures are there to be interpreted and every coach has their preferred players which I understand," Rodriguez said.
”I don't know whether I can say I had a closeness with Zidane but each coach has his preferences.
“I can't say whether he was unjust with me but there is no point thinking any more about that.
“As a player he was my idol. He was a great player, with a lot of quality and I admire those that play good football.
"It was sad the way I left as Real was a dream for me but football is like that, where one day you are where you want to be and the next..."
