Man Utd news: Mourinho deserves backing over ‘schoolboy’ Chelsea spat - Ian Wright
FORMER Arsenal striker Ian Wright has commented on the spat between Jose Mourinho and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.
Mourinho bites back at Conte with barb about match-fixing
Mourinho began to heat up the rivalry with his Chelsea counterpart by calling him a “clown” before bringing up Conte's four-month suspension while at Juventus for failing to report match-fixing at his previous club Siena, although he was later cleared.
Conte responded by labelling the Man Utd manager a “small man” numerous times during his latest press conference.
And the two are expected to continue taunting each other as they battle to be Manchester City’s runner-up in the Premier League title race.
And Wright says he expects the United fans to fully back their manager over the war of words.
Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte have been exchanging insults this season.
If it’s the Manchester United boss slagging off Chelsea’s, there is only one side the Old Trafford supporters will ever take.
“Take his latest spat with Antonio Conte,” Wright wrote in his column for the Sun.
“Ignore the rights and wrongs, the schoolboy ‘he-said, she-said’ public slanging match.
“If it’s the Manchester United boss slagging off Chelsea’s, there is only one side the Old Trafford supporters will ever take.
“They don’t care about who’s right, morally or otherwise.
Mourinho has come under pressure recently after a series of poor results.
“It’s about standing up for their colours, their club, their manager and their players.
“So to that end, Jose will have literally hundreds of millions in his corner.”
Man Utd are next in action when they host Stoke on Monday (8pm).
