Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona: Liverpool star’s transfer makes no sense - Marcotti
PHILIPPE COUTINHO’S impending move from Liverpool to Barcelona makes no sense.
Philippe Coutinho dodges question on Liverpool future
That is the damning verdict of journalist and ESPN pundit Gabriele Marcotti.
Barcelona tried to sign Coutinho over the summer, but had three bids knocked back as Liverpool dug their heels in to keep hold of the Brazilian playmaker who had submitted a transfer request.
However, recent reports have suggested that the mood at Anfield has changed and Barca are confident of landing Coutinho this month.
It is suggested the Catalan giants could spend as much as £140million to bring Coutinho to the Nou Camp.
But Marcotti is left a little puzzled by the potential deal.

This move doesn’t make sense. You will have to pay a premium
“This move doesn’t make sense,” Marcotti told ESPN.
“You will have to pay a premium.
“It doesn’t make sense for Barca who won’t be able to use him in the Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp is desperate to keep hold of Philippe Coutinho
“It doesn’t make sense for Liverpool, because without Coutinho, they will have a harder time making the top four.
“That lost revenue in the Champions League would offset whatever they gain from selling him now.”
Liverpool meanwhile, are in action against Merseyside rivals Everton in the FA Cup third round tonight (7.55pm).
