Chelsea could sign Giorgio Chiellini on one condition - Shaka Hislop
JUVENTUS defender Giorgio Chiellini will only leave the club if he is promised a coaching role when he retires.
Chelsea could only sign Juventus star Chiellini if they offered him a coaching role, reckons Hislop
That is the verdict of ESPN FC pundit and former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
Chiellini, 33, has been linked with a move to Chelsea in the January transfer window.
The Italian played under Blues boss Antonio Conte during his time in charge at Juventus and Italy.
Conte claimed yesterday he would not try to sign Chiellini as he believes he will want to end his career in Turin.
It doesn’t make sense for me for Chiellini to leave Italy at this stage of his career, unless there’s a coaching role at the end of it
“Giorgio is a good player but he’ll want to finish his career at Juventus,” Conte said.
“It’s right to finish his career in this way.”
Hislop agrees it would be a strange move for Chiellini at this stage of his career.
However, he reckons a future coaching role could prise him away from the Old Lady.
Juventus star Giorgio Chiellini makes INCREDIBLE tackle
Giorgio Chiellini moving to Chelsea is unlikely to happen, claims Hislop
“No (I don’t think it would be a good fit),” Hislop said.
“As good as Chiellini has been and you understand with Antonio Conte and the inevitable link there, I just feel that Chiellini is not the age of player they need at Stamford Bridge.
“So it doesn’t make sense for me for Chiellini to leave Italy at this stage of his career, unless there’s a coaching role at the end of it.
“I haven’t seen any speculation to suggest as much. I’m going to put that down as a miss for now.”
