Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho rocked as Sergio Romero informs club of transfer offers
MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper Sergio Romero has informed the club he wants to leave in January.
Sergio Romero pulls off amazing double save against Feyenoord
Romero joined Manchester United in 2015 under Louis van Gaal on a free transfer as a back-up to first-choice David de Gea and was a regular for them as they won the Europa League last season.
And in June, Romero signed a new contract keeping him at the club until June 2021.
Despite not playing regularly, the 30-year-old has remained Argentina’s number one goalkeeper but with the World Cup in the summer, Romero is said to now be fearful of losing his place without first-team football.
Sergio Romero has played second fiddle to David de Gea
Sergio knows he needs to play and the appropriate people in Manchester are aware too
Romero has been unable to force his way into the United team ahead of De Gea, making just six Premier League appearances.
And according to the Independent, Romero has told United he wants to leave.
The report quotes a source close to the player as saying: “Sergio has offers from the Premier League, Argentina and Spain.
"He knows he needs to play and the appropriate people in Manchester are aware too."
Sergio Romero is Argentina's number one
United boss Jose Mourinho will be reluctant to lose Romero, who has been a reliable deputy.
In May, Romero credited Mourinho in helping him gain confidence.
He said: “I arrived here on a free transfer, nobody knew me.
"Now Jose gave me a lot of confidence and the players give me a lot of confidence. For me it’s very important."
