Man Utd news: Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson slams star after Burnley draw
SKY SPORTS pundit Paul Merson has no idea what happened to Romelu Lukaku during Manchester United’s draw with Burnley.
Paul Merson was not impressed with Romelu Lukaku's performance against Burnley
Jesse Lingard rescued Manchester United a point with a late strike against the Clarets to spare Jose Mourinho’s blushes.
United had 23 shots against Sean Dyche’s side as Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic partnered each other up front.
But the attacking pair could not find the net, and Merson was quick to criticise their performances.
He said: "The goalkeeper (Nick Pope) didn't make too many saves. He made one from Lingard, but bar that you'd have expected him to have made them.
I don't know what happened to Lukaku. There was no link-up play between him and Ibrahimovic
“At half-time they were comfortable, but United made a couple of changes before Lingard missed a sitter.
"I think Burnley would take 2-2 before the game. I looked at the team sheet and it was open. I don't know what happened to Lukaku. There was no link-up play between him and Ibrahimovic.
"They got done late on at Leicester at the far post, but their delivery from wide positions wasn't good enough, they kept beating the first man."
Goalscorer Lingardd echoed Merson’s thoughts and admitted his side should have taken all three points.
Romelu Lukaku endured a frustrating afternoon at Old Trafford
“It's disappointing, obviously we created a lot of chances, we should have won the game,” he said.
“We dominated the game so we're disappointed. I'm on form at the moment, it's great being in the team and helping the team get goals.”
United’s draw leaves them 12 points behind leaders Manchester City with Pep Guardiola’s side in action tomorrow evening against Newcastle.
