MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand has put aside his bias by saying he has to respect the current Manchester City team.

However, Ferdinand says Pep Guardiola must win trophies before they can be branded a ‘great’ team.
Manchester City are currently unbeaten after their first 18 Premier League matches of the season after beating Tottenham 4-1 tonight.
They are 14 points ahead of second-placed Manchester United who play West Brom tomorrow (2.15pm).
City also topped their Champions League group, with their only defeat in all competitions this term coming in a dead-rubber against Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this month.

Ferdinand, who made 455 appearances for United, admits he finds it hard to praise City and says they must win some major silverware this season.
“I have to put my support for Manchester United aside when there is that much quality that is going on out there on that pitch for this Manchester City team,” he said on BT Sport.
“It’s hard but my respect for Pep Guardiola and the tactical genius that he is, you have to respect this.
“There’s nothing but respect that you can give this bunch of players that he’s got.

“Yet they haven’t won anything yet.
"Everyone’s like ‘yeah they’re great now’ but you’ve got to win something to demand that extra bit of respect that they deserve.
“But at the moment they are looking to break records the way that they are going.”
