Chelsea news: Antonio Conte makes £22m bid for Leon Bailey, Bayer Leverkusen give answer
CHELSEA have reportedly had a £22million bid to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Leon Bailey in the January transfer window turned down.
Leon Bailey is on Chelsea's radar
Bailey has been scouted extensively by the Blues and he was watched in his side’s 2-0 win over Stuttgart last Friday.
The 20-year-old is thought to be valued at around £50m, and has already been linked with moves to Liverpool and Barcelona.
Although they have been following him from an early age, it seems Antonio Conte faces a fight on his hands to land his man.
The Daily Mail claim Leverkusen rebuffed a £22m offer, as they are holding out for more.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte insists he has to rotate squad
It is better for me to talk to the club about that because the final decision is theirs, not mine
It is suggested they will not look to sell the winger in the January winger.
Chelsea are supposedly on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Willian, who has found opportunities harder to come by this season.
The Mail also claim the Blues are coveting Thomas Lemar, who was the subject of interest from Liverpool and Arsenal over the summer.
Antonio Conte was unsuccessful in his bid for Leon Bailey
When asked over the weekend who Chelsea might sign next month, Conte said: “I don't want to speak about new players.
"It is better for me to talk to the club about that because the final decision is theirs, not mine."
Meanwhile, the Stamford Bridge outfit got back to winning ways after a convincing 3-1 victory over Huddersfield last night.
